”Elän todeksi sitä, millaisen henkisen painauman ja varjon vähävarainen lapsuus jättää ihmiseen. Varttuminen, raha ja kouluttautuminen ei vie pois tunnetta häpeästä ja alemmuudesta - ikään kuin minuudessa olisi valuvika. Olemista kalvava elämän epävarmuus saa kääntymään pois tästä ja nyt; itsen sisään ja unelmien pariin. Huoli kaiken vähänkin elämässä saavutetun menettämisestä. Pientenkin summien maksaminen on kuin avohaavaa koskisi. On kuvia ja kertomuksia ja havaintoja näennäisesti paremmin toimeen tulevien ihmisten elämästä. Ymmärrän, ettei raha, materiaalinen ja kulttuurinen vauraus ole hyvän elämän ehto. Kuitenkin, nämä kodin ja työn miljööt huokuvat turvaa, vakautta, näköalojen mahdollisuutta ja ne vetoavat minuun sokaisevalla vimmalla. Syvässä käyvä jatkuva ja polttava kaiken paremman tavoittelu ja sen etäältä ihailu. Kyvyttömyys tarttua tähän ja nyt, kun huomio aina toisaalla; unelmissa ja siinä mitä ei tai en ole. Hiljainen lamaannus. Toiveena vapautuminen.”
Goldmund (suomeksi Kultasuu) on liikkuvan kuvan teos, jonka otokset ovat kuvallisia jälkiä ja jäänteitä tekijänsä yrityksestä ymmärtää omakohtaisesti ja yleisesti köyhyyden sekä monitahoisen vähäosaisuuden kokemuksen henkistä vaikutusta elämän alusta aikuisuuteen.

”I live under the mental weight and shadow that a childhood of poverty and scarcity leaves on a person. Growing up, money, education doesn’t take away the feelings of inferiority and shame - as if there’s some casting defect within self. The deep-seated uncertainty is still gnawing the daily existence and makes one turn away from here and now; into oneself and towards dreaming. A concern of losing even the little that life has given. Paying even small sums is like touching an open wound. There are images and narratives and perceptions of lives of people, who are seemingly better off. I understand that money and material and cultural wealth are not a condition for a good life. Still, the fine milieu of such homes and workplaces speak of safety, stability, possibility of prospects and these are pulling me with blinding frenzy. The continuous and burning pursuit of all that’s seemingly better but admiring it just from a distance. the inability to grasp the here and now, when all attention is elsewhere; in daydreaming and what’s lacking and what I am not. a quiet paralysis. a plea for release.”
Goldmund is a work of moving image. The shots and scenes are traces and residue of the artist’s attempt to understand on a personal and universal level, the mental toll of poverty and multifaceted scarcity from an early life to adulthood.
